The History

Many, many centuries ago before Christianity appeared in the territory of the Kievian Rus. The ancient people observed the return of birds each spring and the people began saying "The birds bring spring on their wings". Thus bringing the requested warm weather, plentiful harvest, and birth. These wish fulfilling birds sprang from eggs and the people made the conclusion that the egg keeps the great secrets of nature and life.

The people began to paint the eggs with their wishes and symbols to defend them from dangerous animals, thunder and lightning. With the establishment of Christianity in the Kievian Rus in 988AD., The eggs were adopted by the new faith and the painting of eggs became an inseparable part of the joyous Christian Easter celebration. For Easter celebrates a new life for people's souls and their redemption through Christ resurrection.
